Third second place finish for Condorelli at U.S. Pro Swim Series

MINNEAPOLIS – Canada’s Santo Condorelli collected his third second-place finish at the U.S. Pro Swim Series on Saturday finishing in the runner-up position in the men’s 100-m freestyle.

Nathan Adrian of the U.S. was the winner in 48.49 seconds, Condorelli followed in 48.65 and Joao  De Lucca of Brazil was third in 49.35. Yuri Kisil of the Swimming Canada High Performance Centre-Vancouver, was sixth in 49.97. 

Condorelli, fourth in the event at the FINA World Championships this past summer in Russia, was also second in the 50-m freestyle on Friday and the 100-m butterfly on Thursday.

Dominique Bouchard of North Bay, Ont., added a third place in the women’s 200-m backstroke clocking 2:09.47. Kylie Masse of Toronto was fourth in 2:13.38. Missy Franklin of the U.S. won the event in 2:07.24.

Markus Thormeyer of Delta, B.C., was seventh in the men’s 200-m backstroke.

Canadian record at Etobicoke Age Group International

In Etobicoke at the Etobicoke Age Group International competition, Canada’s 4X100-m women’s relay team broke the national short course record. Sandrine Mainville of Montreal, Chantal Van Landeghem of Winnipeg and Michelle Williams and Penny Oleksiak, both of Toronto, and all representing Swimming Canada’s High Performance Centre-Ontario, clocked 3:31.34.

That eclipsed the previous mark of 3:32.52 set in 2009 by Victoria Poon, Genevieve Saumur, Jen Beckberger and Heather MacLean.
