Wiseman, Herbert earn two medals apiece at 2017 Speedo Western Championships

CALGARY – Avery Wiseman of Beaumont, Alta., and Bailey Herbert of Langley, B.C., were double medallists on Friday at the 2017 Speedo Western Championships swimming competition.

Wiseman brought her medal count to three with a victory in the girls 13 and over 100-m breaststroke and silver in the 400-m individual medley which was won by Herbert. Herbert added a bronze in the 100-m breaststroke.

Other victors in the age group were Kyla Leibel of Red Deer, Alta., in the 100-m freestyle, her third gold of the meet, Eloise Ladyman of Kamloops, B.C., in the 50-m backstroke and Sarah Watson of Winnipeg in the 50-m butterfly.

In the girls 16 and over age group winners were Meredith Levorson of Vernon, B.C. in the 100-m freestyle, Sarah Knott of Edmonton in the 100-m breaststroke and Allison McCloy of Calgary in the 400-m IM. It was a second win for both Levorson and Knott.

In the boys 17 and over, Kyle Troskot of Kamloops took the 100-m freestyle, Jaren LeFranc of Penticton, B.C., won the 100-m breaststroke and Nail Kaddache of Regina was first in the 400-m IM.

The winners in the boys 14 and over were Tyler Wall of Penticton in the 100-m freestyle, Anders Klein of Edmonton in the 50-m backstroke, Finlay Knox of Okotoks, Alta., the 100-m breaststroke, Ethan Jensen of Kamloops the 50-m butterfly and Cole Pratt of Calgary the 400-m IM.

Cascade Swim Club from Calgary leads the combined team standings with 929 points followed by Edmonton Keyano at 831.5 and the University of Calgary at 659.5.

Competition continues through to Sunday at the Repsol Sport Centre. Preliminaries are at 9 a.m. and finals at 6 p.m.
