Edmonton’s Richard Funk places third at Pro Swim Series event

ATLANTA – In a race with less than one second difference between the eighth finalists, Richard Funk of Edmonton took third spot in the men’s 100-m breaststroke to conclude the fourth stop on the Pro Swim Series circuit.

Andrew Wilson of the U.S.  led at the split and took top spot in one minute and 01.07 seconds. Nicolas Fink of the U.S. was second in 1:01.14 and Funk, followed in 1:01.19 for Canada’s fourth top-three finish of the competition.

The 24-year-old Funk, who trains at the Swimming Canada High Performance Centre- Ontario, is currently tuning up for the FINA World Championships this July in Budapest.

Mack Darragh of Mississauga, Ont., reached two finals placing fifth in the 200-m individual medley and sixth in the 200-m butterfly.

Mabel Zavaros of Oakville reached three finals this weekend including the women’s 200-m fly on Sunday placing eighth.

Canada’s other three top-threes were earned on Friday by Sandrine Mainville of Montreal with second in the 100-m freestyle, Kierra Smith of Kelowna, B.C., with third in the 200-m breaststroke and Rebecca Smith of Red Deer, Alta., with third in 100-m butterfly.
