Swimming Canada, CSCTA partner to offer four unique professional development opportunities

News –

OTTAWA– Swimming Canada and the Canadian Swim Coaches & Teachers Association are working together to offer four opportunities to work with Swimming Canada’s national teams in the role of an “Apprentice Coach.”

Building on the success of the National Development Team Apprentice Program, the Apprentice Coach role will give the selected coach(es) the opportunity to work with the National Senior, Development, Para, and Open Water teams at specific international events. This includes specific competitions and camps across all pathways.

“Swimming Canada is delighted to partner with the CSCTA in offering four unique coaching apprenticeship opportunities on four of our national teams,” said Swimming Canada High Performance Director John Atkinson. “The experience gained will be extremely valuable for the coaches selected.”

As Swimming Canada works towards its mission to be one of the leading swimming nations by 2020, one of its main goals is to enhance the development of world-leading high performance coaches. The Apprentice Coach opportunity will allow selected Canadian coaches to gain international experience and further their professional development by being part of and working with Swimming Canada’s four National Teams.

The CSCTA will provide funding to help cover the expense of each activity and work in collaboration with Swimming Canada to select candidates to attend these specific initiatives.

“The CSCTA are excited to partner with Swimming Canada to expand the existing National Development Team apprenticeship program to now include the Senior, Para, and Open Water programs. These programs will offer real world international experience for Canadian coaches as part of the national team programs and continues to further expand on our available professional development opportunities,” said Chris Hindmarch-Watson, executive director of the CSCTA.
