Stephanie’s Bio

  • At the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, Horner finished eighth in the 10-km open water race.
  • Horner won the 10-km race at the UANA Open Water Swimming Championships to earn her spot on the Pan Pacific Championships Open Water team.
  • In 2018, Horner won Swimming Canada’s Female Open Water Swimmer of the Year.
  • At the 2017 FINA World Championships, Horner finished 28th in the 10-km open water event. She was also a member of the mixed 5-km open water that finished 11th.
  • At the 2017 Canadian Swimming Trials, Horner swam to a gold medal in the 1,500-m freestyle event.
  • At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Horner competed in her third Games but her first Olympic open water event. She finished 23rd with a time of 1:59:22.10.
  • At the Lac St-Jean stop of the 2016 FINA/HOSA 10km Marathon Swimming World Cup, Horner won a gold medal with a time of 2:06:15.
  • Horner’s transition from the pool to open water swimming paid off at the 2016 FINA Marathon Swimming Olympic Games Qualification Tournament in Setubal, Portugal. Horner finished as the top Canadian in 15th and was the highest-ranked swimmer from the Americas outside of the top ten finishers, which qualified her for her third Olympics in Rio.
  • Horner earned a 16th place finish at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships, despite having pneumonia three weeks before the competition.
  • Horner participated in the FINA/HOSA 10-km Marathon Swimming World Cup 2015 circuit in Lac-Mégantic, QC, where she finished in 5th spot, first among Canadians.
  • Horner qualified for her first open water event at the 2015 World University Games, earning a 10th place finish in 10-km race. Horner also represented Canada in the 1500-m freestyle at the same competition.
  • Horner qualified for her first World University Games in 2013, and swam to an 8th place finish in the 200-m butterfly.
  • She finished 21st in the 400-m individual medley at the London 2012 Olympic Games.
  • At the 2012 Canadian Olympic & Paralympic Swimming Trials, Horner earned a gold medal in the 400-m IM, attaining a personal best in the process.
  • Horner qualified for the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shanghai, where she finished 17th in the 400-m IM.
  • In her Olympic debut in 2008, Horner represented Canada in three individual events and the 4×200-m freestyle relay. She earned personal bests in all of her races, with her highest finish being 11th place in the 400-m freestyle.
  • At the 2007 Pan Am Games, Horner earned four medals, with silver in the 200-m freestyle and bronze in the 200-m IM, as well as relay silvers as a member of the 4×200-m freestyle and 4×100-m medley teams.
  • She made her senior national team debut at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria. She competed in four events, finishing as high as 12th in the 200-m IM.
  • Horner’s first major international meet came at the junior level when she took bronze in the 200-m freestyle at the 2005 Junior Pan Pacific Championships.
