Chantal’s Bio

  • At the FINA World Championships in Budapest, Van Landeghem won bronze in the mixed 4×100-m freestyle and in the mixed 4×100 medley relay as she took part in the morning session.
  • At the 2017 Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, Van Landeghem finished fourth in the 100-m freestyle to earn herself a spot on the relay.
  • She graduated from the University of Georgia in 2017 as a First Honor Graduate status with an overall GPA of 4.0, becoming the first UGA student-athlete to win the Dean William Tate Award in recognition of a perfect GPA.
  • One of the top sprinters in Georgia history, Van Landeghem was a 19-time All-American and part of two NCAA team titles and three SEC championships
  • At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games Van Landeghem swam two individual events along with two relays. Van Landeghem was a part of the 4×100-m freestyle relay that won a bronze medal and broke the Canadian record.
  • In her individual events, Van Landeghem swam in the semifinals for both the 50-m and 100-m freestyle where she finished 10th in both events.
  • She also swam the freestyle leg of the 4×100-m medley relay, which finished 5th in Canadian record time.
  • At the Charlotte stop of the 2016 Arena Pro Swim Series, van Landeghem finished with a gold in the 50-m freestyle and a silver in the 100-m freestyle.
  • At the 2016 Canadian Olympic & Para-Swimming Trials, Van Landeghem earned gold in the 50-m freestyle and silver in the 100-m freestyle to earn an Olympic berth.
  • At the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, Van Landeghem impressed the nation with a gold medal and set a new Pan Am Games and Canadian record in the 100-m freestyle. She swam the anchor leg of the 4×100-m freestyle relay that won gold and set Pan Am Games and Canadian records. She once again swam the freestyle of the 4×100-m silver medal winning medley relay.
  • At the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, Van Landeghem finished fifth in the 50-m freestyle and set the Canadian record.
  • In the 4×100-m freestyle relay at worlds, she teamed with Sandrine Mainville, Michelle Williams and Katerine Savard to finish fifth in Canadian record time. She had to settle for ninth in the 100 after missing the final by 0.01 seconds.
  • Van Landeghem was also a part of the 4×100-m mixed freestyle relay in Kazan with Santo Condorelli, Yuri Kisil and Sandrine Mainville, which earned a bronze medal and also set a Canadian record.
  • At the 2014 Pan Pacific Championships she won a bronze medal in the 50-m freestyle, setting a Canadian record in the process. She also anchored the 4×100 medley relay to a bronze medal.
  • Van Landeghem helped Canada’s women’s 4×100-m freestyle relay lower the Canadian record twice at the 2013 FINA World Championships in Barcelona.
  • In her sophomore year (2013-14) she was part of the University of Georgia Bulldogs NCAA championship and won the Elite 89 Award in recognition of the psychology major’s 4.0 GPA. She has also been named Presidential Scholar and has been chosen for the College Swimming Coaches Association of America Scholar All-America Team and the Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll.
  • Van Landeghem made her national team debut at the 2011 world championships in Shanghai.
