Kate’s Bio

• In her Olympic debut in Tokyo, Kate Sanderson finished 18th in the 10-km open water event.
• At the Gwangju 2019 FINA World Championships, Sanderson was a member of the mixed 5-km relay that finished 13^th. Individually, Sanderson finished 24^th in the 5-km open water race and 35^th in the 10-km.
• At the 2020 FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier, Sanderson captured bronze in the 10-km open water race. Her performance qualified Sanderson for her first Olympic Games.
• At the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships, Sanderson finished 10th in the 10-km open water event, and 13th in the 800-m and 1500-m freestyle.
• At the 2019 Canadian Open Water Swimming Trials, Sanderson won gold in the 10-km race to qualify for the 2019 FINA World Championships.
• Sanderson took eighth spot in the women’s 18-19 age group 10-kilometre race at the 2018 FINA World Junior Open Water Swimming Championships.
• Sanderson qualified for the 2019 NCAA Championships in the 1,650-yd freestyle her freshman year at the University of South Carolina. She won six races during her first season, the 500-yd freestyle twice and the 1,000-yd freestyle four times.
• At the 2018 Canadian Swimming Trials in Edmonton, Kate Sanderson earned a silver in the 1500-m freestyle in a personal best time, qualifying her for the Pan Pacific Championships team, her first senior national team.
• At the 2018 Canadian Swimming Championships, Sanderson won gold in the 1500-m freestyle.
• Kate Sanderson was born in Toronto and lived there until she was three. She has lived all over the world due to her father’s career, including Indiana, Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and Colorado, before committing to the University of South Carolina.
