Santo’s Bio

  • Name is pronounced “SAWN-toe”
  • Condorelli was Swimming Canada’s Male Swimmer of the Year in 2016.
  • At his first Olympic Games, Condorelli competed in the 50-m and 100-m freestyle along with the 100-m butterfly and the 4×100-m freestyle relay. Condorelli finished 4th in the 100-m freestyle, which left him just 0.03 seconds short of the podium.
  • He made the semifinals in Rio for both the 50-m freestyle and 100-m butterfly where he finished 12th in both events, setting a Canadian record in the fly. In the 4×100-m freestyle relay, Condorelli swam the lead off leg, the relay finished in 7th.
  • At the 2016 Canadian Olympic & Para-Swimming Trials, Condorelli earned a gold medal in the 100-m freestyle and silver in the 50-m free to qualify for Rio. At this competition, Condorelli was named the male swimmer of the meet.
  • At the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, Condorelli earned himself a silver in the 100-m freestyle and two bronze medals in the 4×100-m freestyle relay and 100-m butterfly. His relay leadoff time of 47.98 was one of the top four times in the world in 2015.
  • At the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, Condorelli earned himself a fourth place finish in the 100-m freestyle and was a part of the inaugural 4×100-m mixed relay with teammates Yuri Kisil, Chantal Van Landeghem and Sandrine Mainville which earned a bronze medal and new Canadian record.
  • He also set a Canadian record in the 50-m butterfly, finishing ninth, helped the men’s 4×100-m freestyle relay to eighth and the 4×100-m medley relay to 13th.
  • At the 2015 Team Canada Trials he took gold in the 50-m butterfly (not a qualifying event), 100-m freestyle and 100-m butterfly
  • In the 100 free, he was the first Canadian since 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Brent Hayden to dip under the 49-second barrier, clocking 48.83.
  • Condorelli’s Canadian connection is through his mother who is from Kenora, Ont.
  • He was born in Japan and grew up in Portland, Ore., before moving to Los Angeles to train with coach Dave Salo and study business at the University of Southern California.
  • He is among USC’s all-time top 10 fastest swimmers in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.
  • In 2013, he declined a spot on the U.S. team for the world junior championships because it would jeopardize his Canadian team status.
