World medallists back in action at 2017 Canadian Swimming Championships

MONTREAL – Coming off a bronze medal at the FINA World Championships in the mixed 4×100-m freestyle relay, Yuri Kisil and Markus Thormeyer will be looking to keep the momentum going in Montreal as some of Canada’s top swimmers will be competing at the 2017 Canadian Swimming Championships from Friday through Monday.

Swimming Canada’s flagship event of the summer will take place at the Olympic Park Sport Centre and performances at these championships will stand as qualifying times for selection to the national team for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games team.

A number of national team members who competed at the FINA World Championships in Budapest will be competing this weekend including Katerine Savard, Erika Seltenreich-Hodgson, Tristan Cote and Josiah Binnema.

Many swimmers from Canada’s FINA World Junior Championships and FISU Summer Universiade teams will also be looking to assert themselves in Montreal. Eli Wall, Jeremy Bagshaw, Sarah Darcel and Kelsey Wog are some key names worth noting.

The 2017 Canadian Swimming Championships is a fully integrated meet that will include the full national Para-swimming team.

Paralympic medallists Katarina Roxon, Tess Routliffe and Benoit Huot will be ones to watch as they continue their preparation for the 2017 World Para-swimming Championships in Mexico City later this year.

A total of 422 athletes from 118 clubs will be attending the event and nine provinces and four visiting countries will be represented.

Tickets are available for purchase on-site and online at www.ticketpro.ca. Spectators wishing to purchase a meet pass can do so for $40. Individual final sessions begin at 6 p.m. each day and tickets are $12 each, while preliminary sessions kick off at 10 a.m. each day and will be free of charge.
