CALGARY – Justin Fotherby of Penticton, B.C., continued to display his versatility on Friday with a victory in the boys 14-15 age group 100-m breaststroke, his third win this week, at the 2019 Canadian Junior Swimming Championships.

Fotherby clocked one minute and 07.06 seconds with Benjamin Gagné of Chicoutimi, Que., second in 1:07.33 and James Hume of North Vancouver third in 1:07.66. On Wednesday, Fotherby took the 800-m freestyle and on Friday the 400-m individual medley.

‘’I tried the best I could and it came out the way I wanted to,’’ said Fotherby. ‘’I still have three more race this weekend so I’m excited to see how they go.’’

The other winner in the age group was Yutong Wu of Surrey, B.C., in the 200-m butterfly in 2:06.76.

Emma Finlin of Edmonton is the Queen of the distance freestyle in the 13-14 age group  as she took the 1500 in 17 minutes and 40.91, a 13 second improvement on her personal best time. On Wednesday, she was the 800 victor.

“I thought the race went really well,’’ said Finlin ‘’I reached my goals in this race.’’

Corinne Vézina of Longueuil, Que., placed first in the 100 breast in 1:12.37 and Kamryn Canning of Calgary won the 200 fly in 2:19.87.

The winners in the girls 15-17 group were Kyla Gage of Pointe-Claire in the 1500 in 17:37.22, Avery Wiseman of Edmonton in the 100 breast in 1:09.71 and Lora Willar of Pointe-Claire in the 200 fly in 2:16.45.

‘’It was a hard race,’’ said Willar, who won by less than a half second over Catherine Minic of Grand Prairie, Alta. ‘’The altitude is affecting a bit so it’s making the races more difficult than usual.’’
