Swimmers set for Speedo Eastern and Western Championships

News –

Athletes across Canada are ready for the 2023 Speedo Eastern Canadian Championships at the Windsor (Ont.) International Aquatic & Training Centre, with Western Championships held at MNP Community & Sport Centre in Calgary. Both University of Calgary Swim Club and Etobicoke Swim Club will look to defend their 2022 overall titles.

Both events will be live streamed at RecTec.

The two championships, which run Thursday through Sunday, will feature familiar names including Ingrid Wilm of Cascade Swim Club. The Budapest 2022 FINA World Championships medallist is scheduled to race at the Western Championships before heading to Toronto in two weeks’ time.

Windsor last hosted the championships in 2018 and will welcome 511 athletes from 89 clubs this year. Calgary last held a national level meet back in 2019 for the Canadian Junior Championships and will feature 412 from 56 different clubs.

The four-day meets will be the final competition before Canada’s top athletes shift gears and prepare for the 2023 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials at the Pan Am Sports Centre in Toronto March 28 – April 2, 2023.

Preliminary sessions will begin at both competitions at 9  a.m. local time with finals starting at 6 p.m.
