It’s time to #RACEAGAIN!
Coming up in mid-December, we will be launching a new challenge. This initiative will offer an Introductory event, followed by 3 stages in the Speedo #RaceAgain Challenge. For both the Introduction and Speedo #RaceAgain Challenge stages, clubs can submit results, using Hytek Team Manager, from unsanctioned competitive opportunities, completed within the framework of a workout or from sanctioned Time Trials, as permitted within the province.
Swimming Canada member clubs and coaches are responsible for running their events safely within an identified window, setting up sessions in the format that best suits each club’s individual circumstances, workout timeframes and pool and staff availability, but maintaining the training block. All swimmers must be registered in the Competitive category to participate.
The stage dates will be:
|Date Range for Events||Deadline for Submissions|
|Introduction||December 11-January 10, 2021||January 11, 2021|
|Stage 1||January 29-February 7, 2021||February 8, 2021|
|Stage 2||February 26-March 7, 2021||March 8, 2021|
|Stage 3||April 9-18, 2021||April 19, 2021|
We will be using the core age groups from the Speedo Eastern & Western Canadian Championships, and will be adding younger age groups to incorporate everyone into the challenge. The age groups will be 10 & Under, 11-12, 13-15 and 16 & Over for the Women’s events and 11 & Under, 12-13, 14-16 and 17 & Over for the Men’s events. The para swimming events will be multiclass. Swimmers can swim as many or as few events as desired during the date ranges for each stage. All swimmers must be registered as competitive or Masters to participate.
The Introduction will offer 5 events per age group, gender and multiclass.
The exciting part about Stages 1, 2 and 3 in the Speedo #RaceAgain Challenge will be the leaderboards. Each age group, gender and multiclass will have a leaderboard, posting the top 10 cumulative point scores per swimmer. This will be a running tally of points across the events swum, and can fluctuate throughout the challenge. With a small fee of $10.00 per swimmer to participate in the entire challenge, it will allow us to offer both team and individual awards.
There will not be a virtual Speedo Eastern Canadian and Speedo Western Canadian Championships offered this year. With the constant changes and fluidity of the pandemic, it is difficult to plan around other competitions. With both long course and short course standards available, for the 2021 season only, recognition to swimmers achieving the standard will be in its place. If a swimmer meets the qualifying standard at any point throughout the Speedo #RaceAgain Challenge, they will receive a certificate of achievement and an opportunity to purchase a 2021 Speedo #RaceAgain Challenge East/West qualifier t-shirt.
The SPEEDO #RACEAgain Challenge launches DECEMBER 11, 2020.
