James’s Bio

  • Leroux was a part of the mixed 4×100-metre medley relay which set a Canadian record in the event with a time of 4:42.32, placing seventh at the Manchester 2023 Para World Swimming Championships.
  • In his individual events at the 2023 Para Swimming Championships in Manchester, he placed fifth in the 100-metre breaststroke.
  • At the 2023 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Leroux claimed multi-class gold in the men’s 100-m breaststroke. His performance qualified him for the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships team in Manchester, England.
  • At the Madeira 2022 World Para Swimming Championships, Leroux earned bronze in the 100-m breaststroke SB9. He was also a member of the mixed 4×100-m medley 34 points relay that placed 8th and broke the Canadian record.
  • At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, James Leroux finished sixth in the men’s 100-m breaststroke SB9.
  • At the London 2019 World Para Swimming Championships, Leroux made the most of his lone event of the competition, claiming his first career medal at worlds, silver in the 100-m breaststroke SB9, in Canadian and Americas record time. Thanks to his performance, he was nominated to the Canadian Paralympic Committee to represent the country at Tokyo 2020.
  • At the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Leroux broke his own SB9 Canadian record to win the men’s multi-class 100-m breaststroke.
  • At the 2022 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials, Leroux earned silver in the 100-m breaststroke multi-class to qualify for the World Para Swimming Championships.
  • Leroux was Swimming Canada’s co-winner of the Male Para-Swimmer of the year in 2019.
  • At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Leroux made the finals of the 100-m breaststroke, where he finished 7th in Canadian record time.
  • He contributed to a Canadian record in the 34pts 4×100-m medley relay, which finished 7th.
  • Leroux was third in the multi-class 100-m breaststroke at the 2016 Olympic & Para-swimming Trials, with a time that ranked ninth in the world in the S9 class to qualify for his first Paralympic Games.
  • Leroux won gold in the 100-m breaststroke and was part of the 4×100-m medley relay team that was second at the 2015 Parapan Am Games.
  • Finished 7th in the 100-m breaststroke at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. He was a member of the 4×100-m medley relay that set a Canadian record.
  • At the 2015 Speedo Can Am Para-swimming Championships Leroux won the SB9 100-metre breaststroke.
  • At the 2014 Can Ams, Leroux won gold in the 50-m backstroke, freestyle and breaststroke plus the 100-m freestyle. He was second in the 50-m and 200-m breaststroke.
