Sandrine’s Bio

  • At the 2017 FINA World Championships in Budapest, Mainville won bronze after swimming the preliminaries of the mixed 4×100-m freestyle. She was also a member of the women’s 4×100-m freestyle relay that finished fourth.
  • At the same competition, Mainville placed 11th in the 50-m freestyle and 13th in the 100 free, both personal best times.
  • At the 2017 Canadian Swimming Trials in Victoria, Mainville swam to silver medals in the 50-m and 100-m freestyle events to qualify for her second FINA World Championships.
  • At the 13th FINA World Swimming Championships (25-m) in Windsor, Ont Mainville individually competed in two events with her best result being a 6th place finish in the 100-m freestyle. She also made the semifinals in the 50-m freestyle (12th) with a personal best time of 24.27.
  • At the same competition, she competed in three relays earning gold and bronze medals in two events. Mainville along with her teammates Michelle Williams, Taylor Ruck and Penny Olekisak set a new Canadian record in the 4×50-m freestyle relay on their way to winning gold. She also won a bronze medal in the 4×50-m mixed freestyle relay with teammates Yuri Kisil, Markus Thormeyer and Michelle Williams that also set a new Canadian record. She was also a member of the 4×100-m freestyle relay that was disqualified.
  • At the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Mainville was a part of the 4×100-m freestyle relay team. She was the lead off swimmer for the relay that brought home a bronze medal and broke a Canadian record.
  • At the 2016 Olympic & Para-swimming Trials in Toronto, Mainville finished 3rd in the 100-m freestyle to earn a relay spot in her first Olympic Games.
  • At the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, Mainville showed off her relay skills competing in both the 4×100-m freestyle and 4×100-m medley relays.
  • Mainville swam the lead of the 4×100-m freestyle relay that brought home gold. She, Michelle Williams, Katerine Savard and Chantal Van Landeghem also set a Pan Am Games record. She added a silver in the medley relay.
  • At the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, Mainville earned a bronze medal in the 4×100-m mixed freestyle event. She also competed in the 4×100-m freestyle relay (5th), 4×100-m medley (6th) along with the 4×100-m mixed medley (7th). The 4×100-m freestyle and 4×100-m mixed medley set Canadian records.
  • In 2014, Mainville competed at the Commonwealth Games in Scotland. She anchored Canada to bronze in the 4×100-m medley relay and also placed sixth in the 100-m freestyle and eighth in the 50-m butterfly.
  • Mainville won the Sprinter’s Cup at the 2014 CIS Championships, earning wins in the 50-m and 100-m freestyle.
  • At the 2013 Universiade Mainville was part of the Canadian 4×100-m freestyle relay team that won bronze.
  • At the 2013 World Championships Mainville helped Canada set a national record with a fifth-place finish in the 4×100 freestyle relay. She also reached the semifinal in the 50-m butterfly, finishing 16th.
  • In 2013 she won a bronze medal and set a Canadian short course record in the 100-m freestyle at a World Cup in Berlin.
  • Mainville has finished her studies in health sciences at CEGEP Edouard-Montpetit and is pursuing a law degree from l’Université de Montréal.
