Toronto – Asia Minnes continues to impress at the RBC Canadian Junior Championships as she added a third gold to her total medal count on Friday night at the Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre, besting the field in the girls 13-14 100-m breaststroke.

Minnes’ time of 1:12.04 was a personal best in the event.

“I thought it was a good race, I just wanted to go out fast to get that lead,” said Minnes. In response to her success thus far, she added that it was definitely one of her goals to see how many medals she could win. Through Friday night, she has three gold medals and one silver.

Mabel Zavaros of the Oakville Aquatic Club was dominant in the girls 15-17 200-m butterfly as she touched the wall in 2:13.41. Zavaros now has three gold medals of her own, including Thursday night’s girls 13-17 4×200-m freestyle relay.

Zavaros will be competing at the FINA World Junior Swimming Championships in Indianapolis next month.

Ray Yang of the Etobicoke Swim Club narrowly edged out Kamloops Classic Swimming’s Ryley McRae in what was an exciting final push towards the wall in the boys 14-16 200-m butterfly. Joshua Liendo won bronze in the event as he continues to swim well through Night 3 of the competition.

Owen Huang of the Markham Aquatic Club defeated Etobicoke Swim Club’s Alexander Milanovich in the boys 14-16 100-m breaststroke final while Frederik Kamminga beat out Ruishen Yu for top spot in the 17-18 age group. Both Huang and Kamminga posted personal bests on their way to gold in their respective finals.

In tonight’s relay action, the Markham Aquatic Club took home gold in the mixed 13-18 4×100-m medley relay. MAC was led by a couple of world junior team members in Ruslan Gaziev and Victoria Kwan. ESWIM and the Club Aquatique de Montréal rounded out the top three.

In the first final of the night, Emma O’Croinin of the Edmonton Keyano Swim Club led the girls 13-14 800-m freestyle from start to finish to claim gold along with a personal best of 9:00.34.

Calgary Patriots’ Marit Anderson followed up with a strong performance and a personal best of her own in the girls 15-17 800-m freestyle event as she posted a time of 8:55.50.
