FISU Summer Universiade 2017 –

TAIPEI, Taiwan – Katerine Savard is moving on to the women’s 200-m freestyle final at the FISU Summer Universiade in Taipei, Taiwan.

Savard was the sixth fastest qualifier with a time of 1:59.44 in Thurdsay’s semifinals to earn a lane in Friday’s final at the world university games.

“I’m happy to be in the finals for tomorrow’s 200 free and I’ll take that opportunity to race as fast I can,” said Savard. “I don’t want to have any pressure and I’ll try to see what I can do, if I can be faster than what I did today.”

The Pont-Rouge, Qué., native has had valuable international experience in the event as she was a semifinalist at the Rio 2016 Olympics, and also contributed to the 4×200-m freestyle relay bronze in Rio. Savard will look to carry over that experience into Friday’s final.

Kennedy Goss of Toronto was also competing in the semifinal of the women’s 200 free where she finished 10th with a time of 1:59.94.

A pair of Canadians had semifinal swims in the men’s 200-m backstroke on Thursday. Markus Thormeyer of Delta, B.C., finished 11th with a time of 2:00.88, and Rob Hill of North Vancouver’s Chena Swim Club placed 13th with a time of 2:01.22.

High-Performance Centre – Vancouver’s Josiah Binnema of Prince George, B.C., finished 16th in the men’s 100-m butterfly. Binnema posted a time of 53.77 in his semifinal.
