SILVER MEDAL FOR RUCK IN FINAL RACE AT NCAA SWIMMING CHAMPIONSHIPS

ATLANTA – The 2022 NCAA D1 Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships wrapped up Sunday night at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta with four-time Olympic medallist Taylor Ruck of Kelowna B.C. adding a silver medal from the 400-yard freestyle relay to her collection from the meet. Ruck leaves the Championships with two gold, and 1 silver.

Competing for Stanford University, Ruck, together with Torri Huske, Lillie Nordmann, and Regan Smith, finished second behind the University of Virginia with a total time of 3:08.97. Virginia took gold with a time of 3:06.91, while Alabama finished third with a time of 3:09.07.

Ruck also captured gold in the 200-yard freestyle on Friday night, and gold in the 800-yard freestyle relay on the opening night of the Championships on Wednesday.

Maggie Mac Neil of London, Ont., Swimming Canada’s newly minted 2021 Female Swimmer of the Year, finished just off the podium with her teammates from the University of Michigan, tying with North Carolina State University for fourth with a time of 3:09.95.

Avery Wiseman from Drayton Valley, Alta., was the only other Canadian-based athlete to advance to a final on the final day of the Championships, finishing sixth in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:06.57.
