It was another national title (4th) for Alexanne Lepage from the Kelowna Aquajets; this time it was the women’s 200 IM 15-17 age group title. Lepage won the title in 2:15.81. Lepage will be on her first junior national team and compete at the World Junior Championships in Israel this year. “I was actually really happy with my 100 breast,” said Lepage who primarily specializes in breaststroke. “I’m racing it at Junior Worlds later this summer so I went a best time. I was really happy to get that done and feel good about it for next month”.

In Para swimming, Tyson Jacob from Les Loutres broke another one of his national records. Jacob took over a second and a half off his previous 50 butterfly S5 record of 43.89 with a 42.21 finals swim.

Over in the women’s 18 and over 100 butterfly final, Olympic medallist Rebecca Smith from the University of Calgary Swim Club took the national title in 58.72. “I’m feeling pretty good. I’m happy with that time,” said Smith. “I would’ve liked to have been a little bit faster but that’s my season best”. While she was named to the 2023 Pan Ams team, Smith withdrew from it to better focus on her training this year and her performances into 2024.

Saturday night finished off with the men’s 800 metre freestyle. Alexander Axon from the Markham Aquatic Club came first to take gold in the men’s 19 and over age group, adding to his 400 freestyle and 1500 freestyle titles. Axon touched in 8:06.57. “It’s not what I wanted coming into the meet but it’s been a long week and we put up some good performances so far,” said Axon. “Right now I’m just focused on finishing up the season, taking a small break and then getting myself prepared for Pan Am Games”. Axon will represent Canada on his second senior national team at the 2023 Pan Am Games in Santiago, Chile.

Mary Jibb of the Muskoka Aquatic Club also added her 4th medal and second title of the meet with a 1:14.59 swim in the women’s 100 metre butterfly para multiclass final.
