Emily’s Bio

  • At her first Olympic Games, Overholt finished just short of the podium in the 400-m individual medley. She finished 5th despite battling a hamstring injury that hampered her training leading up to the Games.
  • During the prelims of the 4×200-m freestyle relay, Overholt was called up on short notice to swim the third leg that helped the relay go into the finals in 6th. The relay later finished in 3rd giving Overholt her first Olympic bronze medal.
  • At the Gwangju 2019 FINA World Championships, Overholt earned bronze and broke the Canadian record as a member of the women’s 4×200-m freestyle. She also finished fifth in the 400-m individual medley.
  • At the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials, Overholt finished second in the women’s 400-m individual medley to qualify for her second FINA World Championships.
  • At the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships in Tokyo, Overholt finished fifth in the 400-m freestyle and 400-m individual medley.
  • At the 2018 Canadian Swimming Trials, Overholt won gold in the 400-m individual medley qualifying her for the 2018 Pan Pacific Championships team.
  • At the 2016 Olympic & Para-swimming Trials in Toronto, Overholt followed up her successful 2015 by finishing 2nd in the 400-m individual medley to make her first Olympic team.
  • Overholt became a household name in a 24-hour period of ups and downs at the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games, showing her mental strength, incredible poise and maturity despite being the youngest swimmer on the team.
  • Overholt won the 400-m medley, only to find out minutes later that she was disqualified for an illegal turn. She had minimal time to shake it off and go lead off the 4×200-m freestyle relay. With the help of Katerine Savard, Alyson Ackman and Brittany MacLean, they brought home a bronze medal.
  • The following night she won gold in the 400-m freestyle in Games record time.
  • Overholt also earned silver in the 200 free earlier in the meet.
  • At the 2015 FINA World Championships in Kazan, Russia, Overholt made her mark on the world stage in the 400-m medley leaving with a bronze medal and setting a Canadian record.

  • In 2014, at 16, Overholt was the youngest member of the team yet she anchored the 4×200-m freestyle relay to a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games. She added another medal at Pan Pacific Championships in Gold Coast, Australia, as the girls grabbed bronze in the 4×200-m free relay.
  • In 2013 she won bronze in the 400-m IM at World Junior Championships and was part of the 4×200 relay team that finished fourth.
