Nicolas-Guy’s Bio

  • At the 2023 Bell Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Turbide won multi-class gold in the men’s 50-m freestyle. His performance qualified him for the 2023 World Para Swimming Championships team in Manchester, England.
  • He was named Swimming Canada’s 2022 Male Swimmer of the Year (Paralympic Program), marking the fifth time he’s won the award since 2016.
  • Turbide won gold and lowered the Canadian record in the 50-m freestyle S13 at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. It was the first time the event was contested at Commonwealth Games so also set a Games record.

  • At the Madeira 2022 World Para Swimming Championships, Turbide won gold in the 100-m backstroke S13.
  • At the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Nicolas-Guy Turbide captured silver in the men’s 100-m backstroke S13. Turbide also finished eighth in the men’s 50-m freestyle S13.
  • At the 2018 Pan Pacific Para Swimming Championships, Turbide won gold and broke the Americas and Canadian record in the 100-m backstroke and the 200-m individual medley.
  • At the same event, Turbide broke the Canadian record and captured silver in the 50-m freestyle S13. He also earned a bronze medal in the 100-m butterfly S13 in a personal best time.
  • At the London 2019 World Para Swimming Championships, Turbide claimed his first medal in his third career appearance at worlds, silver in the 100-m backstroke S13. He also set Canadian and Americas records in the 200-m individual medley SM13, finishing fifth, set a national record in the 50-m freestyle S13, placing seventh, and finished ninth in the 100-m butterfly S13. Thanks to his performance in the 100 back, he was nominated to the Canadian Paralympic Committee to represent the country at Tokyo 2020.
  • At the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, Turbide earned his first Paralympic medal, a bronze in the 100-m backstroke. He also finished 8th in the 50-m freestyle.
  • Both times were Canadian records.
  • Based on his performance at the Para Swimming World Series in Berlin, Turbide qualified for the 2022 World Para Swimming Championships.
  • Turbide won Male Swimmer of the Year (Paralympic Program) in 2021.
  • Turbide was named Swimming Canada’s Male Para-swimmer of the Year for 2016 and 2018 and was the co-winner in 2019.
  • At the 2019 Canadian Swimming Trials in Toronto, Turbide collected three multi-class medals, including gold in the 50-m freestyle and the 100-m backstroke, as well as bronze in the 200-m individual medley.
  • Turbide broke an Americas and Canadian record at the 2017 Para-swimming Canadian Open in the 200-m individual medley and 100-m freestyle.
  • His breakout performance saw him win six medals and set an Americas record at the 2015 Parapan Am Games where he won gold in the 100-m backstroke (Canadian and Americas record), 200-m IM and 100-m butterfly. He also took silver in the 50-m, 100-m and 400-m freestyle.
  • Turbide swam six events at the 2015 IPC Swimming World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland. He reached the final of the 100-m backstroke, finishing 5th
  • In 2014 he won the bronze medal in the 400-m freestyle at the Pan Pacific Para-swimming Championships. It was his first medal at a major international event.
  • At the 2013 IPC World Championships in Montreal, he placed sixth in the 100-m backstroke and seventh in both the 100-m butterfly and 400-m freestyle.
  • The visually impaired swimmer was also on the 2011 Canadian squad for the Parapan American Games in Guadalajara. He placed sixth in the 50-m and 100-m freestyles.
