Mary C. Lyne

PRESIDENT

Mary is currently a Chief Administrative Officer at the University of Toronto, with a focus on strategy, financial and budget planning, human resources, governance, IT, communications, capital infrastructure, legal, and risk.  Mary is currently on the Board of Swimming Natation Canada, serving as President, and as a member of the Human Resources, Nominations and External Relations Committees.  She has been on the board of Swimming Natation Canada since 2018, also previously serving on the Audit, Finance, and Risk Committee, and the Sport Development Committee.   Mary is also currently a Director on the Board of the Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare hospital network. Mary is a former national competitive swimmer and was a member of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues swim team (national champions 1982, 1983, and 1984).  Mary received the T-Holder’s Award for her academic and athletic achievements.

Vice President

Meaghan is an Executive Health  Care Leader in Ontario. She is a former Australian Junior swimmer and returned to the sport six years ago as a Masters swimmer. She is an empathetic people leader and looks to support the organization in its current strategic plan and to continue the vision of Swimming Excellence in Canadian Swimming. I am committed to supporting the organization in its continuous journey to place swimming on the national sporting map, for both the para and able-body swimmer. I continue to be inspired by the para and able-bodied swimmers, coaches, officials, volunteers, and staff, who all demonstrate the tenacity, grit, and passion that the swimming community strives to promote. 

Dawn Wilson
Secretary

Participating in Competitive and Synchronized (now Artistic) Swimming at a young age instilled some very strong values around hard work, perseverance, self-esteem, and discipline, which she applied during her 30+ year career as an educator and program director.  Her goal now is to give back to the sports that opened up a broad range of opportunities for her, as well as igniting a lifelong passion for swimming and being active.  

In addition to her role as Secretary for Swimming Canada, Dawn currently serves on the Board of Directors of Artistic Swimming Canada and is the Secretary for the Prairie Inn Harriers Running Club. She has previously served as President of SIETAR BC (Society of Intercultural Education, Training, and Research) and filled various roles on the Victoria Masters Swim Club Board of Directors. She is a member of the Institute of Corporate Directors (ICD) and has completed the NFP Governance Essentials Program. 

Matthew Dans

Matt is a passionate member of the Swimming Canada community, having been involved in the sport for over 17 years as an athlete, official, and professional. He represented multiple age group teams in Ontario before going on to compete for the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and representing Canada at the 2019 World University Games. Now a masters swimmer in Toronto, Matt works in Maple Leaf Sport & Entertainment’s Sport Performance Lab, leveraging his background in technology innovation consulting and high-performance sport to conduct sports analytics research and development. 

Migan Megardichian

BOARD MEMBER

Migan Megardichian is a lawyer and has served on the boards of both provincial and federal sport organizations. She is called to the bar in Ontario, New York, and the District of Columbia with a demonstrated track record of commitment to Canadian sport and athletes. She is also a former appointed Toronto City Councilor and recognized by IT World Canada as one of Canada’s top 20 Women in Cybersecurity. 

Her career and contributions are a testament to her belief in the power of sport and sportsmanship. Migan taught swimming for numerous years at the local YMCA in Toronto, volunteered as an aquafit instructor for cardiac rehab patients during her time at law school, and volunteered during the 2015 Pan American Games. She has represented athletes on a pro-bono basis, including before the International Court of Arbitration for Sport. 

Migan swims recreationally on a weekly basis and holds a black belt in Taekwondo.

Peter Szmidt

BOARD MEMBER

Since 2016, Peter has been serving as an independent board member at Swimming Canada. He has chaired the Nominations and High Performance Committees. 

Peter earned his B.Sc. in Computer Science from the University of Alberta. Over the course of his 31 years at Imperial Oil, he held a variety of positions, including roles in internal audit and financial management. 

Peter was a member of Canada’s National Team from 1977 to 1984. During this time, he remained largely undefeated at Nationals in the 200m and 400m freestyle and was a member of two Olympic teams (1980 and 1984). Most notably, Peter set a world record in the 400m freestyle, a title he held for 18 months. Peter also swam at the university level in Canada and the U.S., representing the University of Alberta and the University of California at Berkeley. 

In his free time, Peter enjoys pursuing his hobbies and interests including gardening, keeping fit, and flying gliders. 

Susan Owen

BOARD MEMBER

Susan (Sue) Owen is a Senior Healthcare Leader with over 25 years of experience across all Sectors including Acute Care, Academics & Research, Mental Health & Addictions, Pediatrics, Faith-based organizations, Community & Home Care, and Humanitarian Agencies.  She holds a Masters of Health Administration (Toronto), a Diploma in Facilitation Skills (OISE), and is a Certified Health Executive.  

Sue has spent the last 15 years in consulting, working as a Senior Manager at KPMG Canada, leading Philips Canada’s National Consulting Practice and is now the head of Impreza Consulting Incorporated. Impreza’s focus includes Strategic Planning, Clinical Services Planning, Executive Facilitation, and Good Governance.   

Sue has extensive Governance Experience, working with over 30 Boards of Directors and serving on the Board of Directors for the Canadian College of Health Leaders, The Canadian Patient Safety Institute, Healthcare Excellence Canada, and Hillfield Strathallan College.  

Sue is passionate about Swimming, having swam competitively at the Age Group, OWUAA, and Master’s Levels, coaching Age Group swimmers as well as adult Triathletes. Sue resides in Burlington and is married with two adult children. 

Tehani Mott

BOARD MEMBER

I am a previous competitive swimmer, swimming for Sri Lanka in the Pan Asian Games (2 Bronze) and South Asian Federation Games (4 Silver 2 Bronze) in 1991. After moving to the US, I became a swim coach and then swam for York University when I immigrated to Canada in 1994. 

I served on the Board of the Canadian Mental Health Association, Peel Dufferin as Board Director for seven years, including two years as Vice Chairman. I bring unique public and private sector experience in Policy Development and Implementation, helping to address systemic and complex issues. My experience in government relations and negotiations helped resolve contract issues between the Ministry of Health and Statistics Canada. My Strategic and Business Planning knowledge helped support the Ontario Budget delivery planning team. I have successfully built relationships, engaged stakeholders, and delivered on key outcomes to support my team and Organizational Development. I am currently responsible for overseeing the planning and restoration of the Ontario Legislative Building. 

Zack Chetrat

BOARD MEMBER

Zack joined the Board in September 2022 after serving on SNC’s Athlete Council for 4 years. He was a swimmer for 16 years competing at the international level representing Canada as well as the club and varsity level. His career outside of swimming has been in the asset management industry. He contributes to the Board through his strong background in finance, experience as an athlete at SNC, and personal connections in the sport.
